Ares Ultra more about them

NEC is the new super computer king. For now that is. They just launched the SX-9, a slick new super computer that is capable of 839 trillion floating point operations per second. Thats 839 teraflops in technology terms. This wonder will be on display in Reno, Nevada. Gizmodo cracked a good joke about why it’s on displey there : so that after the exhibition it will be shipped straight to Area51 to help find the aliens. Good one.

Green DELL Reloaded

After DELL’s announcement of going green the management team thought of bringing some fresh ideas from the outside. So they launched a contest for people to submit their “green power” ideas “that demonstrate refreshed approaches and responsible solutions for green computing technologies”. The contest called ReGeneration offers some cool money prizes like : top five finalists will get $10.000, the people’s vote finalist will win $15.000  and 40  awards worth $2,000 each for teachers that will have at least two student projects in the competition.

Radical new design, this brand new wonder called Fit-PC is said to consume no more than 5W of power. Powered by an AMD Geode processor with a 500MHz speed, 256 MB of non expandable DDR memory, a 2.5″ HDD with 40GB of disk space, an SXGA graphics controller, two USB ports to use for your peripherals and last but not least … no cooling fans. And adding to these specs are it’s dimensions ( 5″ long / 1.5″ think), making this Fit-PC so tiny it can fit anywhere. Price tag released was $285.

Sony released informations about their new PC  Blu-ray burner, named BWU-200S. It’s specifications include a 4x speed for Blu-Ray ( this will burn 50GB of data in aprox. 45 minutes ), 16x burning speed for DVD’s,  a SATA connector and will use Cyberlink BD for playback, editing and burning. The drive will become available starting next month with an estimated price of 600 US Dollars.

Dell Will Fight for the Earth

By the end of 2008, DELL will align it’s line of production so that their products become environmental friendly by becoming carbon neutral. This is a good trend that most producers are staring to follow and it’s a good thing. DELL will be implementing more energy efficient sources during production.

There’s been a time in history of business where it’s more important for organizations of all sizes to partner together to positively impact the Earth that we all share… It’s not enough for Dell to be an environmental leader. We also need to partner with our customers … to dramatically improve our own customers’ environmental impacts.

Motorola was unveiled two brand new WiMax Modems. A silver droid like desktop modem based on Intel’s 2250 Rosedale 2 chipset, compatible with 802.16e-2005 ( the CPEi300 ) and the much sleeker looking CPEi800 that has WiFi, 4 ethernet ports, two analog line jacks and external antenna jacks. The first model will become available latter this year and will cost aproximatly $200, but the second model will be out next year.
