NEC is the new super computer king. For now that is. They just launched the SX-9, a slick new super computer that is capable of 839 trillion floating point operations per second. Thats 839 teraflops in technology terms. This wonder will be on display in Reno, Nevada. Gizmodo cracked a good joke about why it’s on displey there : so that after the exhibition it will be shipped straight to Area51 to help find the aliens. Good one.

The brand new Samsung BD-UP5000 is designed to support full HD DVD and Blu-ray , including the best in class profile 1.1 support for picture in picture for BD. With an estimated price of $1000 it isn’t cheap, but you’ll avoid the ugly situation of having to choose between a disc player that plays Casino Royale (BD) or Transformers (HD DVD). This is the first HD disc player we can recommend wholeheartedly from a feature standpoint, but of course, it’s not that simple. I’m sure some of you will want to opt for the other choices. Maybe you want a game console with HD disc playback, or don’t have an HDTV yet. Maybe you’re interested but are waiting for the price points to drop on players.

The fabled Helio Mysto could actually be a Samsung U600 if the rumors coming from a source at PhoneArena prove to be correct. The rumor also states that a Helio version of the phone would switch to a CDMA receiver and EVDO, but would otherwise remain its sexy-looking self —including its super trim .42-inch profile. As with all rumors, this info should be taken with a grain of salt, but I wouldn’t mind seeing what Helio could do with the U600. [PhoneArena via Electronista]

After DELL’s announcement of going green the management team thought of bringing some fresh ideas from the outside. So they launched a contest for people to submit their “green power” ideas “that demonstrate refreshed approaches and responsible solutions for green computing technologies”. The contest called ReGeneration offers some cool money prizes like : top five finalists will get $10.000, the people’s vote finalist will win $15.000 and 40 awards worth $2,000 each for teachers that will have at least two student projects in the competition.
